However, many clients have asked us to not use their projects for marketing purposes either to maintain their privacy or not to draw attention to an acoustical problem that was addressed. Much of BSA's work on residential projects has focused on sound and impact isolation. For a sound isolation analysis, the transmission of noise between adjacent interior spaces, or between the exterior and interior of a building, is studied. Proper sound isolation design can help insulate a quiet space from adjacent distracting noise or enhance privacy. A sound isolation analysis determines what Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings are needed for wall assemblies, floor-ceiling constructions, doors and windows, in order to limit the transmission of noise between adjacent spaces, as well as what Impact Insulation Class (IIC) rating is necessary for floor-ceiling constructions, in order to reduce annoyance due to impacts, such as footsteps, on the floor above the listener.
